Canadian pro wrestler Rocky Johnson, real name Wayde Douglas Bowles, died on January 15, 2020. He was born on August 24, 1944. He and his teammate Tony Atlas were awarded the World Tag Team Championship in 1983, making them the first Black champions in WWE history. Dwayne “The Rock” Rocky Johnson, a renowned WWE wrestler and actor, is his son.
Career
Soon after making his professional wrestling debut in Southern Ontario in 1964, Rocky Johnson legally changed his name to his stage name, Rocky Johnson. Jack Rocky Johnson, the first black heavyweight boxing champion, and Rocky Marciano were two of Rocky Johnson’s favourite boxing greats, and they inspired him to choose the name Rocky Johnson.
Rocky Johnson travelled to the Central States,Hawaii, Potland Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the independent circuit after leaving the WWF in June 1985.
After retiring in 1991, Rocky Johnson and Pat Patterson helped his son Dwayne Johnson become a wrestler. Rocky Johnson originally opposed his son’s admission into what he understood to be a very challenging industry, but eventually agreed to coach him with the premise that he wouldn’t be lenient.

In 2003, they got divorced. Rocky Johnson gained a reputation for having extramarital affairs during his time as a wrestler. At the time of his passing, Rocky Johnson was wed to speech therapist Sheila Northern.
